Program Highlights October 16, 2017

Today, Mr. Flicek shared his vision for Avera McKennan in four key areas of focus:

1. Growth: An organization cannot shrink its way to greatness. From new building projects and renovations to new service offerings and deepening patient relationships, Avera is committed to the people and communities they serve.  Avera is building a new clinic off of 69th and Louise Avenue in Sioux Falls, SD.  They have 80 acres of land and will utilize 22% of the land for a new specialty clinic which will house Orthopedics, Rheumatology, Internal Medicine, and Gastroenterology.  This clinic will focus and serve the aging population with these specialties.  When completed, Mr. Flicek stated this expansion will allow the main Avera hospital campus to remodel and update.

2. Workforce: Avera's workforce is their greatest asset. Attracting and retaining a solid workforce is crucial, so Avera is constantly looking at new and innovative ways to do just that.  They have been focusing on retention strategies to maintain and gain entry level workforce.  Mr. Flicek also stated that immigration and foreign medical graduates are important to the Avera community.

3.  Research:  Mr. Flicek stated that research is sharing medical knowledge with others.  Avera is focusing on personalized medicine specifically genetic testing, cancer, and depression research.

4.  Clinical Service Line:  Avera offers opportunities for deeper integration and collaboration across their health system.  This also offers a consistent high quality patient experience.
