Weekly Meeting
Exploring the Purpose and Function of SDPB

In her FY26 budget address, former Governor Noem proposed a 65% cut to South Dakota Public Broadcasting (SDPB). The funding was ultimately restored by legislators and Governor Rhoden. On May 1st, President Trump issued an executive order to freeze all federal funding for NPR and PBS.
We explore why Congress originally established the educational broadcasting system and how SDPB fulfills its mission to inform, inspire, and connect South Dakotans. Rotarian and former Governor Dennis Daugaard will moderate the discussion, featuring SDPB Executive Director Julie Overgaard, District 17 Representative Chris Kassin, and Rotarian Ryan Howlett, CEO of The Friends of SDPB.
The buffet lunch will be available beginning at 11:30 am. The menu will be: Baked chicken quarters, baked potato with asparagus and salad bar.
The presentation, at the club’s regular weekly meeting, will be held at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance in Sioux Falls and will begin at noon. All Downtown Sioux Falls Rotary Club programs are open only to Rotarians and their guests. All programs are subject to the club's Privacy Policy. Local media are invited to attend to record the session.
