Why did you join Rotary Club of Downtown Sioux Falls?

I have been a Rotarian since 2012, so when our family chose to call Sioux Falls home, I was eager to find a club! Rotary has helped me better understand current issues in the community, connect to and deepen relationships with other community leaders, and be a part of something bigger by living the Four Way Test.

Are you on any Rotary committees? If so, explain the value you have gotten from joining a committee.

I am proud to chair the More Than Mondays committee. Our committee’s goal is to create opportunities for Rotary connections outside of Monday meetings. We’ve had incredible behind-the-scenes looks at facilities meeting community needs like the new Children’s Home Shelter for Family Safety and Avera Addiction Care Center, just to name a few. We’re planning recurring social opportunities, so Rotarians continue to get to know one another outside of meeting contexts. Finally, we’re creating opportunities to give back, like with the sock drive for Bishop Dudley House, Children’s Home Society Gift Wrapping booth and packing boxes for Feeding South Dakota. As a side benefit, I’m getting to know other Rotarians better as we come together to do this work. Good stuff all around!

What other clubs/boards/nonprofits are you involved with?

I volunteer as a Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce Ambassador to encourage cross-sector membership in the Chamber. That keeps our community thriving and I love working with others in different fields to achieve that goal. Last year I was appointed to the Visual Arts Commission by Mayor TenHaken; the Commission supports and encourages development of visual art throughout public spaces. I serve on the Stewardship Board at my church, First Lutheran.

Do you currently mentor as part of the Sioux 52 Initiative? If so, what has your experience been like?

Yes! I have been involved with a number of short-sprint mentorship opportunities with REACH Literacy, Dress for Success, EmBe Women’s Leadership Program.

What would you tell someone that is considering joining Rotary Club of Downtown Sioux Falls?
If you’re a “Service Before Self” leader, Rotary would be a great fit for you. Join us to learn more about the community, increase your impact, and connect with the global Rotary mission. Just remember, you’ll get out of it what you put into it.
