Downtown Rotary Sends Message to the Moon
Our club was one of 1,000 from countries all over the world initially invited to send a message to the moon! In early 2025, a SpaceX Falcon Heavy Rocket will lift off from Cape Canaveral in Florida carrying the Griffin Moon Lander that will have a chip onboard containing messages of PEACE from Rotary clubs all over the world. Our message was recorded on July 22, 2024 and read:
"To the moon, from the heart of Sioux Falls, South Dakota in the United States of America,
As Rotarians, we stand united in our commitment to peace, friendship, and understanding among all people. Today, we extend our hands in fellowship to every corner of the universe.
From the city blocks of Downtown Sioux Falls to the vastness of the lunar surface, let us remember that we are all interconnected—bound by our shared humanity and the desire for a better world. Let this image of our Club be a symbol of hope, resilience, and the belief that together, we can achieve lasting peace.
May this message reach far and wide, echoing the Rotary values of service above self, goodwill, and peace. Let us continue to work tirelessly toward a future where harmony prevails, and every individual can thrive.
In peace and service,
Downtown Sioux Falls Rotary"
